Estimator Position

J.H. Fitzmaurice, Inc. (JHF) is seeking an Estimator to join our team. This position will primarily be responsible for in-house estimating support, including detailed quantity takeoffs, subcontractor scope review, bid analysis, and assistance with the preparation of cost estimates and proposals for multifamily construction projects.

Essential Functions

• Perform quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam and other estimating tools as needed.
• Review project drawings, specifications, and related bid documents to develop a clear understanding of project scope.
• Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor proposals for completeness, accuracy, and scope compliance.
• Communicate with subcontractors to clarify scope, exclusions, qualifications, and pricing assumptions.
• Prepare detailed trade scope sheets identifying required scope of work for each bid package.
• Develop bid leveling/comparison sheets to evaluate subcontractor proposals and support scope buyout recommendations.
• Assist with the assembly of conceptual budgets, hard bid estimates, GMP proposals, and other preconstruction deliverables.
• Participate in preconstruction and OAC meetings as needed.
• Support the estimating team with document management, bid follow-up, and other preconstruction tasks.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam; experience with estimating software and Excel strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with subcontractors and internal project teams.
• Prior estimating, preconstruction, or construction internship/entry-level experience is preferred.
