Custodian - 12 Month - Essential PersonnelThis position is: Non-ExemptPrimary Function: Routine manual labor associated with the daily cleaning of facilitiesMinimum Qualifications: Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Necessary and special qualifications include knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment. Sufficient strength, agility, dexterity and oral/written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities. Ability to work out of doors in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions. Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to itinerant position. Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the essential functions.Reports to: Principal or Appropriate Administrator or Head CustodianPerformance Responsibilities:Police grounds and other public areas (including snow removal and weeding flower beds)Remove and properly dispose of trashScrub, strip and refinish floors, dust mop, wet mop, sweep and spray-buff floorsVacuum, shampoo and clean rugs and carpetScrub and clean restroom fixtures and keep restrooms suppliedDust, polish and clean by washing walls, doors, windows, lockers, furniture, woodwork and other above floor surfaces including those only accessible via ladder or other established lifting apparatus as requiredReplace light bulbs and overhead fixtures including those only accessible via ladder or other established lifting apparatus as requiredMove furniture and setup rooms for special eventsNotify supervisor of equipment conditions and facility needsPerform minor building maintenance to include painting areas only accessible via ladder or other established lifting apparatus as requiredServe as a part of the emergency response team for YCSD and the County of YorkPerform other related duties as assigned by principal, appropriate administrator or head custodianModel non-discriminatory behavior at all times and follows established safe work practicesFollow established YCSD policies and procedures at all timeWorking Conditions & Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head. Can stand for extended periods of time. Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction. Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment. In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee's duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.Terms of Employment: Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
