Environmental Health Specialist I/II, Food Protection

Job Summary Position: Environmental Health Specialist I / Specialist II within the Food Protection Services Program. Salary: Specialist I starting at $54,001 per year; Specialist II starting at $59,612 per year. Posted Date: 09/09/2025. Closing Date: Continuous (Open until filled). Position Type: Full‑time County Contractual. Hours: 40 hours per week. Location: Health Services Building, 3 Harry S. Truman Parkway Annapolis, MD 21401; Brooklyn Park Office, 300 Hammonds Lane Brooklyn Park, MD 21225. Benefits: Participation in the County’s group health plan (including prescription, dental, and optical), paid holidays and sick leave. Optional deferred compensation program at employee's own expense. Job Description The Environmental Health Specialist I position is entry‑level work involving inspection, investigation, and code enforcement to obtain compliance with environmental health laws, codes, ordinances, and standards. The Specialist II position is a full‑performance professional level role with the same responsibilities. Both levels are responsible for inspection and licensing of permanent, mobile, and temporary food service facilities and for complaint investigations related to food service facilities. Education and Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biological, environmental, or physical sciences from an accredited college or university. License or Certification Specialist I: Must possess a Certificate of Eligibility to be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists. Specialist II: Must possess a License as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
