Street and Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Description Under direction, this position organizes, manages, and directs the maintenance activities of the Street Maintenance and Fleet Sections of the Public Works Department. The Street and Fleet Maintenance Supervisor provides highly complex support to the Public Works Superintendent; and performs related work as required. As An Ideal Candidate, You Are a skilled and collaborative leader who excels in guiding teams and maintaining high operational standards Demonstrate strong leadership by motivating, coaching, and directing staff while fostering a positive team environment Have extensive knowledge of street maintenance, including asphalt paving, pothole patching, concrete sidewalks/curbs/gutter repair, and storm drain maintenance Are experienced with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as iWorQ Fleet Management Understand and consistently follow city policies and procedures Are an effective communicator – both orally and in writing Are a critical thinker who can collaborate with internal and external staff Have proven experience preparing, monitoring, and managing operational budgets Have experience in vehicle procurement by purchasing or leasing procedures Understand required vehicle maintenance per manufacturer's specifications Example of Duties Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Directs, oversees, and participates in the development of the workplans for the Street Maintenance and Fleet Sections of the Public Works Department; Plans, organizes, assigns, evaluates and reports on the maintenance and construction of street improvements including pavement, sidewalks, storm sewers, striping, signage and related facilities; Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the acquisition, utilization, repair, and replacement of all City vehicles and power equipment; Assists in the development, implementation, and communication of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; effectively communicates departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, verbally and in writing, to City staff and others Prepares and assigns duties to personnel by providing oral or written instructions; Inspects the work of staff and contractors; Supervises and provides training on equipment; Estimates and orders materials; Orders and maintains fuel supplies; Prepares the streets and fleet program budgets; assists with budget implementation; Maintains daily records and prepares maintenance schedules and routine reports and other performance information; Assists with the procurement and disposal program Effectively use computers, software programs, and other technology; Oversees the development of the scope, cost, and, when approved, bid specifications for vehicle/equipment to be purchased; Ensures the work environment is in compliance with government safety and environmental standards Investigates complaints and deals regularly with the general public; Evaluates the performance of assigned staff; May be required to work weekends and holidays; Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Five years of responsible experience in construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, one of which is in a lead capacity. Supervisory experience is highly desirable. Knowledge Of Principles and practices of street construction and maintenance operations, sidewalk construction and repair, storm sewer maintenance, and signing and striping maintenance and installation; Methods, tools, materials and equipment used in all phases of street and traffic control maintenance; Practices, methods, tools, and equipment of fleet maintenance; Principles and practices of supervision; Safety principles, practices, and procedures; Techniques of safe and effective traffic control. Ability to: Supervise and perform street and fleet maintenance activities; Supervise and evaluate personnel; Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment; Read and interpret plans and blueprints; Prepare routine reports and maintain records; Prepare and administer budgets; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Deal effectively with the public. Possession of: Valid California Driver's License.
