Senior Physician - Primary Care Supervisor

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Senior Physician Primary Care Supervisor within the Medical Services Division. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

• Communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees
• Planning and directing employees work
• Having the authority to recommend actions such as hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, promote, discharge, assign, and reward or discipline direct reports
• Conducting physical examinations on new admissions and annually thereafter
• Performing general medical diagnostic and prescriptive work for all residents
• Ensuring that preventive practices and procedures are followed
• Referring residents to medical specialists and facilities in the community for necessary treatment
• Supervising all direct reports ensuring that they meet individual performance standards
• Supporting the Medical Executive Director in the management of the medical division

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position include:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of program management and delivery of mental health services
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
• Ability to manage mental health disorders and care of patients
• Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses and/or disorders
• Ability to compile and evaluate mental health assessments, medical histories and other clinical and laboratory data
• Ability to initiate diagnostic laboratory tests and evaluate the results
• Ability to prescribe/alter and administer appropriate medications for specific illnesses
• Ability to work with patients having a variety of mental psychiatric disorders and physical problems
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
• Ability to apply the consultative process in problem-solving activities
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to develop and implement various program monitoring methodologies and techniques
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Minimum qualifications include:

• Licensure as a physician pursuant to Chapter 458, Florida Statutes, and two years of post-licensure professional experience in the practice of medicine; or
• Licensure as an osteopathic physician pursuant to Chapter 459, Florida Statutes, and two years of post-licensure professional experience in the practice of osteopathic medicine; or
• Certification by a recognized board in a medical specialty area can substitute for the required experience
• A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved school is required
• Must hold a current, full and unrestricted medical license in Florida
• A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
• Must possess a current DEA license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate is needed
• Strong communication skills are essential
