Telecommunicators/9-1-1 Dispatchers are skilled at multi-tasking, typing a minimum of 40 wpm, and speaking clearly while working under pressure. Dispatchers put their heart into serving citizens during some of their most challenging times. Successful applicants will have strong keyboarding skills, outstanding interpersonal and judgment skills and the ability to multi-task during intense situations and high volume workloads. Incumbents are responsible for answering emergency 9-1-1 and non-emergency telephone calls and directing appropriate and timely resources. Responsibilities include prioritizing calls, tracking unit status, and dispatching police, fire and/or EMS personnel to calls for service.

Our Police Department is a 24-7 operation and all candidates will be required to work nights, weekends, rotating shifts and holidays. Hiring timeline: 1. Complete an application, attaching your resume, cover letter and typing test. 2. After review of your application, candidates selected will be contacted to complete Criticall testing. 3. Successful candidates on Criticall test will then complete an observation in our dispatch center. 4. Interviews will be scheduled. 5. After interviews, candidates selected will go to a Chiefs interview. We anticipate a hiring date for the successful candidate August/September, 2026.
