Job Title: Patient Care Technician

Department: PCU

Status: Full Time, Nights

Schedule: 6:00pm-6:30am

Summary/Objective

Performs reception, clerical & secretarial duties while functioning as the focal communication source in the work station. Works closely with management, staff, families, physicians, other employees, & visitors. Assists to maintain the department in a constant state of readiness and an adequately stocked, well organized & clean department. Requires weekend & holiday rotation. Works in highly stressful situations and with wide variances in workload.

Essential Functions

1. Communicates with peers, other health team members, patients and visitors.

2. Adaptable and flexible. Ability to perform multiple tasks and self-start with minimal direction from nursing staff.

3. Utilizes AIDET

4. Resolves problems and adapts easily to change.

5. Utilizes down time productively or in a way that benefits the patient. Avoids waste; utilizes equipment and supplies effectively.

6. Uses computer for only purposes as assigned.

7. Maintains clean, neat, adequately supplied workstation.

8. Assessments and interventions are timely and appropriate and indicated by patient conditions.

9. Delivers age specific care for all age groups cared for on the unit. Examples of age specific care include: bathing patients in a timely manner, assisting with oral care, providing assistance with ambulation, assisting patients to bedside commode, and providing assistance with feeding and clothing patients as needed. Age specific care can be provided depending on patient needs and abilities to perform ADL’s independently.

10. Answers call bells/responds to requests from patients promptly. Assures that hourly rounding is done, assessing toilet needs, pain, positioning, possessions within easy reach of patients and comfortable in the environment.

11. Demonstrates an awareness of fall prevention techniques: Helps patients at risk, communicate that risk to other caregivers, reports all falls or assisted falls.

12. Maintains professional appearance and demeanor: well groomed, observes dress code, communicates caring. Refrains from discussing hospital business in the community.

13. Creates a positive learning environment for students and new team members. Demonstrates acceptance and tolerance and maintains a friendly,helpful attitude. Actively engages in the mentoring process.

14. Demonstrates honesty and integrity, does the right thing, is open, forthright, genuine, trustworthy and truthful.

15. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and apply new knowledge. Holds self to high standards/expects to deliver to the best of ability and be open to change.

16. Responds to constructive criticism in a positive manner; admits failures and does not shift blame; encourages and values the feedback and opinions of others.

17. Properly reports issues/problems and works constructively to resolve them. Follow the chain of command. Works to resolve conflict with the other person directly and to create a win-win situation. 18. Processes patient charges timely and accurately.

Experience/Education Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent

• Knowledge of medical terminology, clerical skills & basic data entry skills preferred.

• Experience in a health related field helpful

• Possesses a service orientation

Licenses/Certifications

• BLS certification
• Passes EKG testing yearly

Iroquois Memorial Hospital is a 25 bed hospital located in Watseka, Illinois. The hospital facility is comprised of clinical and diagnostic services which are dedicated to providing high quality health care services to the community. These services include but are not limited to an Emergency Room, full service OR suites, an inpatient care unit, therapy services, advanced medical imaging, Home Health, and Hospice Care. The hospital operates rural health clinics in Watseka, IL, Gilman, IL, Milford, IL, Saint Anne, IL and Kentland, IN. The hospital also operates a skilled nursing facility, Iroquois Resident Home, which is attached to the hospital property.
