Full/Part Time Status: Full Time Position Description:

The Department of Surgery Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Section of Colorectal Surgery at the University of Iowa invites applicants interested in a faculty position in Colorectal Surgery. Appointment will be for Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in either the non-tenure clinical track or tenure track consistent with experience and research interest. This position will join a growing program at a multi-disciplinary, institutional center for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is a tertiary medical center which includes a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Level I Trauma Center. The University of Iowa also encompasses the James A. Clifton Center for Digestive Health, a multidisciplinary association of the specialties of gastrointestinal surgery, adult and pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, radiology, and pathology. This multidisciplinary center is composed of a diagnostic and therapeutic unit, outpatient clinic, office facility and inpatient unit. This unit facilitates efficient consultation between Gastroenterology and surgical specialties and improves the ability to perform clinical research. It includes specialists with expertise in the areas of gastrointestinal, pancreaticobiliary, colorectal, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery who work together to advance the art and science of the care of the GI tract.

Education Requirement:

Candidates must hold MD, DO or equivalent degree.

Candidates must have completed ACGME accredited training in all phases of General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants with established research are preferred and appointment to the tenure track requires research experience at a level which enables procurement of outside funding.

The successful candidate will have evidence of adequate training and/or experience in open, laparoscopic, robotic surgery, endoscopy, and anorectal surgery.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, be committed to ongoing performance improvement, and to providing care as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrated commitment to teaching, research, and clinical excellence is required.

Certifications:

Board eligibility/certification from both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery is required.
