Description:A.T. Still University's College of Graduate Health Studies (ATSU-CGHS) is seeking a full-time, exempt Instructional Designer. This remote position reports to the Instructional Design Manager. The Instructional Designer works as a trusted, consultative partner to faculty subject matter experts (SMEs), bringing instructional design expertise, creativity, and evidence-based recommendations to the development of effective, inclusive courses in CGHS’s fully online programs.

The Instructional Designer will manage a portfolio of course development projects where they collaborate closely with faculty SMEs to translate learning outcomes into rigorous and engaging courses, use expertise in learning theory and effective online teaching practices to recommend instructional strategies that advance student success, and integrate educational technologies meaningfully. Additionally, they will contribute to ongoing team operations and broader initiatives to advance teaching and learning across the college.

The ideal candidate is both a thoughtful designer and a confident consultant — someone who can listen carefully to understand each program’s needs and adapt their approach as projects evolve. They also embrace opportunities to experiment with new technologies, learn from colleagues, give and receive feedback, and continue growing their practice.

Duties & Responsibilities 

• Partner with faculty subject matter experts to design, develop, and improve online learning experiences.
• Help faculty translate learning outcomes into effective instructional strategies, activities, assessments, and learning materials.
• Use outcomes-based design, learning theory, adult learning principles, and evidence - based teaching practices to inform your recommendations.
• Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility standards, and inclusive teaching practices to create learning experiences that work for diverse learners.
• Assist faculty in creating course content and support faculty with effectively using the Canvas learning management system.
• Integrate other educational technologies when they meaningfully support student learning and stay current with emerging technologies.
• Manage multiple projects with different timelines, priorities, and deliverables, keeping partners informed and projects moving forward.
• Collaborate effectively across the college as part of cross-functional committees and projects.
• Contribute to a feedback-rich team culture by sharing ideas, resources, and expertise with colleagues.

Requirements:

Education & Experience 

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.
• Three or more years of experience in an instructional design or similar role focused on developing online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced learning experiences.
• Three or more years of experience working in higher education settings.
• Adept at applying backward design principles to develop assessments, activities, and instructional materials that are intentionally and transparently aligned with learning outcomes.
• Knowledge of learning theory, adult learning principles, and evidence-based teaching practices.
• Commitment to accessible, inclusive, and learner-centered design.
• Experience collaborating effectively with subject matter experts with varying levels of experience and time.
• Proficiency in authoring in a learning management system (LMS), preferably Canvas.
• Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Calendar, Chat) and Zoom for collaboration.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on commitments.
• Coachability and genuine interest in learning, feedback, and professional growth.
• Team orientation and ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
• Attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment, including self-direction, proactive communication, and comfort collaborating across different (US) time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching or developing courses within healthcare education.
• Advanced knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), WCAG, Section 508, or other accessibility practices.
• Experience using learning data or other evidence to inform course improvements.
• Proficiency with eLearning software and/or video, audio, and image editing tools.
• Experience leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in instruction or to streamline workflows.
• Ability to edit web pages using basic HTML code and CSS.
