Staff Power Electronics Design Engineer

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Staff Power Electronics Design Engineer to lead development of high-voltage, high-frequency power systems for medical devices. This R&D role requires designing robust architectures, mentoring engineers, and ensuring regulatory compliance while managing complex technical challenges with broad autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Define system-level architectures for high-voltage, high-power digitally controlled power supplies
• Lead design trade-offs across topology, control strategy, magnetics, insulation, and thermal management
• Develop and validate simulation models for complex power systems with dynamic, reactive loads
• Own design, board layout, documentation, and compliance from concept through production and field deployment
• Mentor junior engineers and lead design reviews for high-voltage power electronics systems

Requirements

• Expert-level experience in high-voltage, high-frequency switch-mode power supply design
• Strong background in digitally controlled systems using DSPs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs
• Deep expertise in power conversion topologies, magnetics, insulation, and thermal management
• 12+ years progressive power electronics or electrical engineering experience (or 10+ with Master's, 5+ with Ph.D.)
• Experience with medical device capital equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, or plasma systems preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Ph.D. in Power Electronics preferred
• Knowledge of medical device safety, EMC, and regulatory compliance standards
