Position Description

All LVMPD part time positions are limited to 19 work hours per week and 988 hours per year. Support Assistant is paid at $19.71 an hour.
DEFINITION
Incumbents perform a variety of office support functions that vary by work unit assignment. These functions include typing; data entry; keeping organized, detailed and thorough records; transcribing audio recordings; document scanning, indexing and filing of records; mail sorting; answering phones; front desk reception.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a part-time position not subject to the competitive requirements of the LVMPD Civil Service Rules.

Training, Education and Experience

• Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America at the point of application.
• Must be 18 years of age by the closing date.
• Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).

1. Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
2. Vision sufficient to read the computer screen and fine prints in documents.
3. Hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone.
4. Dexterity sufficient to use the keyboard and handle small office equipment.
5. Mobility sufficient to work in the office.
6. Strength sufficient to lift and carry light items such as files and papers.
7. Endurance sufficient to sit or stand for long periods of time, as necessary.
8. Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive demeanor.

The background investigation takes approximately 90 to 120 days to complete. You must also meet the LVMPD Hiring Standards.
