Child & Family Vision Specialist

Role Summary: We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and professional individual to join our dynamic team of Child & Family Vision Specialists. In this role, Specialists provide families with a child with visual impairment the education, resources, and support needed to help their children thrive including direct intervention, case management, and emotional support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Family Support & Intervention: Manage a caseload of 50–100 families annually, providing support via phone and video calls. Address parenting concerns and offer specific intervention strategies
• Clinical Collaboration : Partner with pediatric optometrists for vision exams weekly. Conduct pre-exam health histories, record clinical notes, and help families translate medical findings into actionable home and school support
• Case Management: Create tailored intervention plans, gather resources, and make referrals to community agencies
• Community Engagement : Participate in approximately 10-12 family events per year to build rapport and offer hands-on support
• Outreach : Represent the organization in meetings with school districts, regional centers, and other service providers. Provide in-service training and consultations to community professionals
• Administrative Duties : Maintain accurate family data and exam tracking. Collect necessary release forms and documentation
• Team Collaboration : Weekly meetings with fellow Specialists for professional development, support, and case consultation

Qualifications:

• Education: BA in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, Social Work, or a related field
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years working with children with special needs and their families (early intervention, school, or medical setting preferred)
• Strong child observation skills and knowledge of developmental domains
• Familiarity with local service systems (Regional Centers, School Districts, etc.)
• Excellent interpersonal skills, specifically active and reflective listening
• High level of organization and comfort working in a remote/hybrid environment
• Attributes: A non-judgmental, professional, and child-friendly approach. Ability to speak confidently to both individuals and large groups
