Building Maintenance Worker - Hourly

Job TitleThis position is with the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department.Examples of DutiesThis class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.This position may require working non-traditional shift hours, which may include early morning, afternoon, evening, late night, or swing shift.Availability to work on call, evenings, and weekends is required.Moves and arranges furniture and A/V equipment to set up rooms for meetings and special functions.Cleaning and sanitizing of hard floors, under bleachers, facility restrooms, auditorium floors, seats, windows, fixtures, mirrors and carpets. Empties trash and stocks supplies, etc.Operation of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, buffers and carpet extractors.Removes litter and debris from facility walkways and grounds.Supervision and securing of facility.Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work; drives City vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assists other staff as required.Provides customer service.Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with contractors, public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.Typical QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained in active status without suspension or revocation throughout employment.Public Works Department: NoneParks, Recreation, and Open Space Department:Crowd Manager Certification – within 15 days of hireCPR/First Aid Certification – within 6 months of hireMandated Reporting: Recognizing Child Abuse and NeglectRequired Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of safe work practices and regulations pertaining to the work.Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to understand and apply ratios.Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work.Understanding and following oral and written directions.Preparing basic records of work performed.Performing general maintenance work, individually or as a member of a crew, in various areas, depending on the function.Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.Ability to read and communicate with basic English skills.Supervision Received and Exercised: Under General Supervision - Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior.
