Advanced Nurse Practitioner

The advanced nurse practitioner will provide medical services in a primary care clinic in collaboration with family medicine or internal medicine physicians. The nurse practitioner will provide general and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests, and prescribe medication for children and adults. The nurse practitioner will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care, frequently advising patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or providing case management.

Essential duties include conducting thorough medical histories, performing complete physical examinations, initiating appropriate lab, radiology tests or other specialized tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizing lab data on new and former clinic patients to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan. The nurse practitioner will provide primary care services on the days and at times established and scheduled by Genesis Healthcare System. They must be able to work with collaborating physicians when applicable, perform routine outpatient procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, managing simple conditions produced by infection or trauma, assisting in the management of more complex illness and injury as privileged by the Genesis Credentialing Board. They may prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through applicable state Board of Nursing/Medicine and Genesis Credentialing Board. They will ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary. They will participate in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes periodically to assure quality care. They will maintain competence in his/her area of specialty by attending professional conventions or seminars as well as participating in educational activities offered by professional societies on a reasonable basis. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a graduate of an accredited APRN training program, current Ohio RN and APRN licensure, a current certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe (or eligible) by the Ohio Board of Nursing, family medicine or internal medicine experience preferred, and required certifications such as BLS to be obtained within 6 months of hire. ACLS or PALS may be required based upon practice setting.

Working conditions/physical requirements include routine potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, working on a patient unit or outpatient care setting, ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, ability to sit, stand, push, pull, bend, and squat, ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, ability to walk for extended periods of time, close up and peripheral vision abilities.
