Rural Student Services Comprehensive Advisor

The College of Indigenous Studies, Rural Student Services (RSS), is seeking the ideal candidate to join our team as a comprehensive academic advisor. Our team is committed to responding to student needs by providing quality services to Alaska Native and rural students who expend positive effort in the pursuit of higher education and its opportunities. Our comprehensive approach is unique in recognizing students' efforts to develop and maintain academic and personal balance as they contribute to the cultural richness of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and beyond. This position will guide students with semesterly registration, identify and help apply for scholarships, develop degree plans, and identify potential internship and career opportunities.
Since 1969, the RSS program has continued to meet the ever-changing needs of our students by acknowledging and incorporating culturally competent advising and support services. Every student is important to us. This attitude is reflected in all that we do, and we strive to create a home away from home by offering traditional foods, welcoming family and community members at our events, and most importantly, building strong relationships with our students. Our primary objective is the retention and matriculation of Alaska Native and rural students in the many degree programs offered through UAF.
The successful candidate will be passionate about building up and contributing to a thriving student-centered community. They will be respectful, open-minded, and willing to learn about the unique cultures throughout Alaska. Strong organizational skills, time-management expertise, and keen attention to detail are essential for balancing the responsibilities of a comprehensive academic advisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. May require appropriate or applicable certification. Master's degree preferred.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 79, step 1 based on education and experience.
