TRAINING SPECIALIST – PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINING DAWSON TECHNICAL COLLEGE Dawson Technical Institute of Kennedy-King College, one of the CityColleges of Chicago, seeks an innovative, collaborative Full-timeTraining Specialist to teach Physical Training courses to studentsenrolled in various construction trade programs. Under the generalsupervision of the Dean of Dawson Technical Institute, PhysicalTrainer will customize nutrition plans and contextualized physicaltraining learning activities to build muscular strength enhancingwork efficiencies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Prepare syllabi, lesson plans, and other instructional teachingaids in nutrition, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles forstudents preparing to work in the construction industry. Classroom/Physical Training Fitness Center preparation, lessonplanning, classroom instruction (theory and contextualized learningand assessment). Creates an effective learning environment that fostersstudents' intellectual curiosity and helps students to problemsolve using discipline-specific thinking strategies. Prepares and maintains daily student documentation as well asprovide student performance evaluation. Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments toensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and theattainment of the student learning outcomes for the course. Provides reports, evaluations and documentation of trainingmaterials. Performs testing and usability checks on all fitness equipmentand monitors for broken parts. Reports problems immediately. Ifnecessary, will place signs on machines so exercisers do not usethe machine while it is broken. Fills out incident report forms after accidents or injuriesrelated to equipment use or mishandling. Helps students reach their academic, personal, and career goalsand cultivates a safe environment that respects the diversity ofindividuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students andconveying confidence in every student's ability to learn. Collaborates, evaluates, and updates curriculum andcourses. Fulfills other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Science, AthleticTraining, Health Science, Health Education or closelyrelated discipline and current certification from an NCCAaccredited program * , along with 2 years of work-relatedexperience. * Holds a current certificate in Personal Training,Corrective Exercise or Exercise Physiology from one of thefollowing nationally recognized and accredited organizations:National Academy of Sports Medicine, American College of SportsMedicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, AmericanCouncil on Exercise. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification ispreferred First Aid Certification preferred. Experience instructing a class of 10-20students/participants Experience with fitness/workout equipment The salary range for this position is $58,000 - $65,000. Offered salary will be determined by the respective collectivebargaining agreement and applicant's education.
