Safety Administrator – Department of Fleet & Facility Management (2FM) Department: Bureau of Facilities Management, Health and Safety Section Number of Positions: 1 (additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Salary: $106,272; Grade GY-11 Application Deadline: 11:59 p.m. CDT, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 Location: 1869 West Pershing Road, 4th Floor, Chicago, Illinois 60609 Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (may vary depending on operational needs) Exemption Status: Exempt from the Career Service Essential Duties Develop and implement environmental, safety, and health programs to reduce work‑related injuries and illnesses, improve employee safety, minimize damage to City property, strengthen the safety culture, and ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations. Conduct risk assessments of jobs performed and customize OSHA programs to meet departmental needs, incorporating relevant standards, best practices, and departmental procedures. Oversee section staff performing OSHA activities, including safety inspections of construction, work, and facility sites, safety training, and accident/injury investigations. Coordinate development of training programs and provide training in safety work standards, proper equipment operation, hazardous condition recognition, and use of safety equipment. Provide technical expertise and guidance to management on OSHA and EPA regulations and standards related to worker and facility health and safety. Represent the department during OSHA regulatory inspections, review inspection results, respond to citations, and coordinate implementation of new or revised processes to ensure full compliance. Ensure compliance with OSHA incident and accident reporting, recordkeeping, and preparation of the OSHA 300 Log. Recommend strategies and new safety initiatives to improve safety performance, processes, and awareness. Designate section staff and work with management to investigate serious injuries and analyze injury and accident data; recommend corrective action plans to prevent recurrence. Provide leadership in investigating serious incidents or accident investigations. Analyze incident and accident investigation data to identify causes and recommend prevention measures. Develop effective safety and health communications using various multimedia methods. Coordinate efforts to prepare standard operating procedures for safety and train staff on them. Prepare management reports assessing the effectiveness of OSH programs and safety training programs. Ensure department compliance with environmental permits, including Clean Air Act Program Title V Permit and NPDES MS‑4 and CSO permits. Manage projects for asbestos and other hazardous building material sampling and abatement, fuel storage tanks, storm water management, and sustainable operations. Assist in formulating the department's Health and Safety annual non‑personnel operating budget in coordination with affected operating bureaus. Additional duties may be required for this position. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of safety management experience. OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of safety management experience. Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License required. OSHA Construction 10‑30 Hour Training Certification may be required. Professional certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) may be required.
