Position Information TxDOT's New Braunfels Area Office, located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country and between San Antonio and Austin, offers transportation engineering opportunities with a wide variety of highway and bridge construction projects. We oversee projects across Comal, Guadalupe, and Wilson Counties ranging from pavement preservation to the expansion of State and Interstate Highways. The New Braunfels Area Office is hiring for a Transportation Engineer I, II, or III, which will join our team of construction engineers as we deliver critical infrastructure projects. Annual Salary Range Transportation Engineer I (B24): $65,104 - $106,634 Transportation Engineer II (B25): $69,572 - $114,099 Transportation Engineer III (B26): $76,530- $129,430 This position is for a Transportation Engineer I, II, or III, depending on business needs and applicant qualifications. - Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks and supports management in evaluating options for corrective action for routine projects.
- Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
- Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
- May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
- Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.
- Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.
- Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders; reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.
- Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
- Uses department's enterprise Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule and resource management tool to accomplish scheduling and resource management of transportation projects.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
- Oversees construction and audit records.
- Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
- Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for routine projects.
- Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.
- Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
- Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.
- Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
- Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
- Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for transportation projects.
- Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects.
- Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
- Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
- If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification.
- For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire.

- This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
