Child Welfare Specialist

Position Overview The Department of Children and Family Services seeks an organized, professional, and results‑oriented individual to serve as a Permanency Specialist. Under general supervision, the specialist will provide professional child welfare casework services to children and families, determine the need for placement of children in substitute care facilities, and coordinate such placements. The position includes conducting interviews, obtaining information for diagnosis and treatment planning, and testifying in court regarding client history and future plans. The specialist will also prepare witnesses, participate in administrative case reviews, inform clients of appeal rights, and assist with appeals. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills and a commitment to ensuring the safety and stability of children and youth. Essential Functions Provide experienced professional casework services to children and families; determine needed placement and coordinate placement in substitute care facilities. Prepare and testify in court regarding client history and future plans; assist in the preparation of witnesses. Participate in the administrative case review process and provide recommendations. Inform clients of appeal rights and assist them in initiating appeals. Establish goals for children and parents; prepare reports on progress or lack of progress toward goals. Coordinate the development of a comprehensive, family‑centered, culturally relevant assessment of children and families. Maintain ongoing assessment of needs and strengths; evaluate progress toward minimum parenting standards. Provide feedback to the family regarding progress and permanency outcomes. On a rotating basis, perform 24‑hour on‑call duty to ensure services are provided as mandated by statute and policy.
