Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist

Summary This position is located in Gulf Islands National Seashore, in the Facility Management Division. The role is open until 07/19/2026. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration. Major Duties The employee serves as the facility management expert supporting park management initiatives. Responsibilities include: Maintaining asset inventories and condition assessments to inform maintenance cost planning for annual and multi‑year budgets. Using Facility Management Software System for cost‑effective management of park assets and determining asset priority indexes, deferred maintenance costs, replacement values, and condition indexes. Determining and recommending project scope, goals, objectives, and evaluating need for professional consultation for design, development, review, and evaluation of project documents. Preparing annual work budget plans for maintenance operations and exercising full supervisory duties at least 25% of the time. Providing professional and technical advice to the Facility Manager on managing and supervising park personnel engaged in repair, rehabilitation, cyclic maintenance, routine and maintenance projects. Managing maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and operations of all facilities, grounds, and utilities, including buildings, structures, utility systems, campgrounds, roads, pedestrian trails, and recreation areas. Supervising and directing the work of maintenance supervisors and approximately 20–30 employees, reviewing their work for conformity to goals and procedures. Developing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for construction and ongoing projects. Overseeing contracting processes and providing Contracting Officer Representative oversight for construction contracts. Education There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement. Requirements U.S. citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Valid driver’s license and the ability to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record. Ability to operate a government or private motor vehicle, including a four‑wheel drive vehicle if required. Willingness to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided. Will be required to complete a one‑year probationary period if a new employee or supervisor in the federal government. Will be required to maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Will report for a financial disclosure reporting requirement and complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment. Physical Demands Work is mostly sedentary in an office setting. Occasional walking, hiking, climbing, bending, and moderate lifting are required. Working Conditions Work involves regular exposure to moderate risks associated with operation, repair, and maintenance of park infrastructure and equipment.
