Overview Under the direction of a licensed Medical Technologist, the Medical Laboratory Technician II performs, evaluates, and reports technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens to diagnose and treat disease. The role follows established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with professional standards of practice, while exemplifying the values of the organization. What You Will Do Perform accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, following established protocols. Report test results in a timely manner according to laboratory protocols. Follow procedures for laboratory quality control and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and internal policies. Effectively manage resources, including productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment. Plan work and complete job responsibilities efficiently and productively. Perform other job functions as assigned or requested. Education and Formal Training Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology. Licenses and Certifications Medical Laboratory Technician (AMT) – American Medical Technologists (required) Medical Laboratory Technician – Ranked – Tennessee Department of Health (preferred) Medical Laboratory Technician – American Association of Bioanalysts (preferred) Medical Laboratory Technician – American Society of Clinical Pathologists (preferred) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated competency in routine testing within the assigned laboratory area. Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems. Ability to organize tasks and projects independently to complete assignments. Physical Demands The role requires climbing, pushing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Individuals must have good balance and coordination. The position may involve exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally or up to 25 lbs. frequently, close visual acuity, frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact, and exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials.
