Senior Systems AdministratorThe Senior Systems Administrator is a position that requires expertise in multiple technical areas and is responsible for systems of profound County-wide importance. Errors in judgment could result in severe financial losses or legal liability for the County. This position assists in ensuring the stability and efficiency of operation of the County computer systems by planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing network and/or server-based hardware, software, and/or communication links.Essential Functions The following is not all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.Provides planning, leadership, guidance, and advanced technical expertise for computer and network services for both local and wide area networks and the internet. Serves as the technical expert for computer/network systems and associated issues.Configures, installs, and maintains directory structures, security, and applications software. Understands County applications and the variety of ways applications can be used for special use cases.Prepares and maintains up to date documentation, supporting assigned and related areas of responsibility. This includes application environments, system blueprints, schematics, and procedures.Supervises, coordinates, and participates in troubleshooting and resolving complex issues, including hardware, software, network architecture, such as connectivity, internet access, email, and file servers. This may include being a lead on problem-solving efforts when involving outside vendors and other support personnel.Troubleshoots and solves the most complex application problems, including monitoring servers for problems, diagnosing problems, and taking the appropriate corrective measures to ensure an expedient resolution.Assists with the definition and implementation of application disaster recovery. This may include hardware, software, and information protection and file integrity.Maintains, prepares, and upholds processes for reporting, statistically monitoring, and logging network and application performance. This may include identifying and resolving the most complex issues that may face the server and network infrastructure.Design and implement core infrastructure technologies. This may include identity management, access control, capacity planning, applications, and networks.Performs ongoing administration and account maintenance of the Office 365 tenant, maintains, and troubleshoots key end-user scenarios. Develops workflows and processes for the Office 365 tenant, that may include using PowerShell scripts.Assists the Director in the development and implementation of appropriate policies concerning the overall County IT infrastructure. This may include the assistance with testing, planning, and the overall application policies.Develops and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on County departments. This includes providing leadership in planning and implementation of projects from the beginning to the end.Performs database administration, that may include expertise in writing and editing queries that read, manipulate, and analyze data for business intelligence. Also, translating business requirements into system requirements, that leads to creating strategic roadmaps for business intelligence.Support remote and local users with accessing the County's network via current and emerging remote connectivity solutions. This may include probing emerging network technologies and making suggestions for the hardware/software needs for the future. Then assessing, testing, and configuring specialized network solutions.Function as the technical expert in storage area network system implementation, upgrades, and system integrations. Monitor the County SAN and verify systems availability and facilitate integration of the storageProvide expert guidance and reporting on information security issues to the IT Director. This includes analyzing and reviewing federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance.Train and mentor, the System Administrator II, System Administrator I, and IT Technician positions.Backup and assist the Senior Network and Cyber Administrator as needed.Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Desirable for candidates to have Microsoft, CompTia, or comparable certificates. Current Driver's LicenseKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge of operating systems, standard application suites, file structures, computer design, and hardware. This includes the ability to understand and draft technical documentation. Knowledge of setup and operation of devices, such as smart telephones, VOIP systems, tablets, printers, and copiers. Remain current on technology trends and cyber threats.Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee should be capable of occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.Working Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate Work Schedule The normal work schedule is 40 hours per week; however, the IT Director assigns the exact schedule. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency. This position requires some level of 24x7 on call, which is divided amongst the department staff.
