Job Summary The Phlebotomist is responsible for executing the plasmapheresis process by performing venipunctures. This Is What You'll Do Ensure the operation is compliant with state and federal regulations (e.g., FDA‑approved Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP) to maintain the highest production standards and ensure facility compliance. Maintain a high level of customer service and provide a positive donor experience in line with company values and culture. Maintain cleanliness of the work area to ensure a clean and professional environment. Review and confirm donor identification and maintain donor confidentiality per Standard Operating Procedures. Set up and prepare all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedures. Label each unit and sample accurately. Execute venipunctures and plasma collection, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. Operate the automated plasmapheresis machines, including responding to and evaluating all machine alarms and alerts, donor adverse events, and documenting exceptions. Monitor donor conditions, employing techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and plasma quality. Maintain proper donor‑to‑product ratios to ensure donor safety and product quality. Disconnect donors and manage disposal of biohazardous waste and contaminated equipment in accordance with safety protocols, including cleaning of any blood or plasma spills. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of automated plasmapheresis machines and remove or replace equipment from service, if needed. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of required records, including Plasmapheresis Machine Logs. Report all unsafe situations and conditions to management. Maintain and stock adequate inventory, replenishing supplies on plasma carts. Drive training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance. Troubleshoot machine alarms/alerts and perform routine quality checks (daily/monthly) on equipment. This Is What It Takes High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Relevant certification or licensing as required by state law. Minimum three (3) months’ experience in a medical or health‑care environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completed documentation of training appropriate for duties prior to performing duties independently. Strong customer‑service skills. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocols. Basic computer knowledge and skills. Ability to create accurate and complete documentation. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctuality, full effort throughout shift, flexibility with assigned schedule). Ability to work daytime and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts frequently. Ability to perform venipuncture. Effective communication skills. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty‑five pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel. Ability to utilize all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Occupational exposure to blood‑borne pathogens. Ability to view a video display terminal within 18 inches of the face for extended periods (up to four hours). Acceptance of working in an environment with a temperature of –40 °C as required by Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to perform precise tasks requiring repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests. Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
