Job Description Summary The Endoscopy Technician reports to the Nurse Manager and is responsible for assisting surgeons, gastroenterologists, physicians and other medical staff in preparation and performance of surgical/endoscopy procedures by processing and furnishing sterile and non‑sterile supplies, equipment and services for the care and treatment of patients. Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type Employee Worker Sub‑Type Regular Cost Center CC003719 COL - Endoscopy (DMC) Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health‑22 Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Job Description The Endoscopy Technician reports to the Nurse Manager and is responsible for assisting surgeons, gastroenterologists, physicians and other medical staff in preparation and performance of surgical/endoscopy procedures by processing and furnishing sterile and non‑sterile supplies, equipment and services for the care and treatment of patients. Key Responsibilities Procedural Assistance: Provide technical support and assistance during GI procedures, including endoscopies, colonoscopies and other diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; assist healthcare providers in positioning patients, preparing equipment and monitoring patient vital signs. Equipment Management: Ensure the availability, functionality and cleanliness of GI equipment and instrumentation; perform routine maintenance checks, troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed. Patient Care Coordination: Collaborate with healthcare providers, nurses and other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care before, during and after GI procedures; assist in patient preparation, monitoring and recovery to ensure comfort, safety and confidentiality. Documentation and Record‑keeping: Accurately document procedural details, patient information and equipment usage in electronic medical records (EMR) or other designated platforms; maintain thorough and organized records of procedures, maintenance and inventory levels for quality assurance and compliance. Quality Assurance and Compliance: Adhere to established protocols, policies and procedures related to GI procedures, infection control, patient safety and regulatory compliance; participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control audits and regulatory inspections. Education and Training: Stay informed about advancements in GI technology, procedures and equipment through ongoing education and professional development; provide training and mentorship to new staff, residents and fellows on procedures, equipment usage and safety protocols. Minimum Training and Education High school diploma or equivalency with at least one year of patient care experience in a health‑care facility. Certified Nursing Assistant or completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution. EMT or Paramedic certification. Bachelor's degree. Successful completion of SGNA modules for GI Technical Specialist within the specified timeframe (desired). Ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and make accurate physical observations of patients. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Basic Life Support required upon hire. Must maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, either from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or from the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking and climbing stairs. Ability to work indoors, outside in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces and from kneeling positions. Ability to bend, twist at the waist, squat, perform pinching operations and use both hands for gross and fine motor activities. Ability to reach overhead and in all directions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted and lift/lower objects up to 50 lbs from the floor, and perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists and shoulders. Good vision, hearing and tactile sensory functions sufficient for patient care. Ability to perform under stressful situations, rotating shifts, overtime, and maintain a latex‑safe environment. Additional Job Description Minimum Requirements: At least 1 year of work experience in a 0.6‑FTE GI Technical Specialist I position at MUHA or 1 year of patient care work experience in a health‑care facility; or a college degree; or active enrollment in nursing or health‑care related program; or a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant or equivalent training. Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire and must be maintained as a current AHA or American Red Cross certification.
