This organization is developing and operating large‑scale, high‑density AI data centers across multiple U.S. markets, delivering gigawatts of compute capacity to leading AI labs and enterprise customers. Our partner is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to serve as the senior technical owner for data center cooling strategy and delivery across a rapidly expanding AI data center portfolio. This is a hands‑on technical leadership role, responsible for cooling architecture from chip to chiller, supporting ultra‑high‑density GPU deployments across air‑cooled and liquid‑cooled environments. You will set standards, lead innovation, manage a growing mechanical team, and work cross‑functionally to deliver cooling infrastructure at unprecedented speed and scale. Own the end‑to‑end mechanical cooling strategy for large‑scale AI data centers, from chip‑level thermal management through chilled water plants and heat rejection. Set portfolio‑wide mechanical standards, driving key architectural decisions across liquid and air‑cooled systems, energy efficiency, and high‑density GPU deployments (75–150+ kW/rack). Lead mechanical design delivery across multiple concurrent projects, managing consultants, design reviews, construction support, commissioning, and performance validation. Define and deploy modular, prefabricated mechanical systems to enable rapid, repeatable data center deployment. Build and lead the mechanical engineering function while managing critical vendor and cross‑functional stakeholder relationships. B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. 10+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for hyperscale or HPC data centers. Deep expertise in chilled water plants, air‑and water‑cooled chillers, and liquid cooling architectures. Proven experience leading mechanical teams and managing external MEP consultants. Strong knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9, IMC, ASME, NFPA, and mission‑critical standards. Experience developing and enforcing portfolio‑wide design standards.
