AI Training Analyst
Duke Clinical Research Institute
AI Training Analyst Be You. Be Bold. The Digital Experience & Academic Technology Solutions (DEATS) team is seeking anAI Training Analyst to join the Office of Information Technology's DEATS Team. As AI becomes embedded in every aspect of institutional life, OIT's AI-related work is central to Duke's commitment to preparing students, faculty, and staff for success amid technological transformation, ensuring that AI enhances rather than displaces human expertise and that the university community can engage with AI tools responsibly and effectively. To help prepare students, faculty, and staff for this, Duke has a growing portfolio of self-paced resources, webinars, hands‑on workshops, cohort‑based accelerators, and consulting services for staff and faculty. This role guides that training portfolio to work as an integrated system, fill its gaps, and ensure that everyone at Duke, regardless of technical background, has a clear path to AI fluency and enablement. The AI Training Analyst designs, delivers, and assesses OIT's AI education programming, including self-paced resources, webinars, hands‑on workshops, personalized department engagements, a cross‑functional consulting service, and cohort‑based accelerators. This is a proactive, highly collaborative role. You will manage an existing training portfolio, identify gaps, create new content, and deliver training to departments rather than waiting for them to seek it out. A competitive candidate is comfortable delivering a webinar to 150 people and having a one‑on‑one conversation with an administrator who doesn't know where to start - and sees both as equally important. They have a demonstrated understanding of generative AI tools and their implications for workforce development, as well as strong skills in translating technical concepts for non‑technical audiences. Responsibilities Training Delivery and Content Development Design, curate, and deliver AI training across multiple formats (asynchronous, webinar, hands‑on, cohort‑based) and audiences, with a particular focus on making training accessible, relevant, practical, and reusable. Covering ethical principles, technical foundations, policy considerations, data stewardship, responsible use, and technical and non‑technical application of Duke's AI Suite. Develop and coordinate role‑specific reskilling pathways that connect teams with pragmatic, hands‑on training. Develop and maintain training materials: slide decks, role‑based workflow guides, facilitator guides, responsible‑use templates, and participant resources. Keep materials current as tools, capabilities, and institutional guidance evolve. Coordinate with subject matter experts, school‑based AI faculty leads, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and other institutional partners to align programming, avoid duplication, and identify opportunities for collaboration. AI Consultation Participate in the AI consultation service; Duke's live, expert‑assisted support for staff, faculty, and students navigating complex or sensitive AI use cases. This service bridges the gap between structured training sessions and real‑world application in participants' daily work. Manage scheduling, intake, and triage for consultation requests. Match requests to the right consultant and route straightforward cases to self‑service resources where appropriate. Conduct consultations directly for foundational and productivity‑focused use cases; elevate complex technical or policy‑sensitive cases to appropriate specialists. Track consultation patterns and volume to identify recurring questions, surface common training gaps, and inform the development of new resources and programming. Improve the consultation experience over time by refining intake processes, developing a library of common‑use‑case responses, finding ways to train and add new consultants, and reducing repeat requests through better self‑service resources and targeted training content. AI Training Program Management and Coordination Maintain a single, shared, publicly communicated AI training calendar across all formats, including logistics (room bookings, Zoom/Teams, registration, waitlists, and communications). Manage cohort‑based programs: pre‑consultation with leadership to understand goals and outcomes; manage team and trainer schedules; build Communities of Practice (e.g., Microsoft Teams channels) for peer support; and integrate with AI consultation services. Maintain the centralized resource hub that surfaces and sequences Duke's AI learning resources (courses, guides, recordings, documentation) so that any community member can find the right starting point. Develop communications about AI education programming, including newsletter announcements, calendar updates, department outreach, event promotion, and updates to ai.duke.edu. Design and implement program assessment strategies using pre‑and‑post‑program surveys, feedback instruments, and usage analytics to evaluate training effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. Develop mechanisms for documenting the value that training participants bring back to the institution, including tracking productivity gains, use case adoption, workflow improvements, and other measurable outcomes to demonstrate ROI and inform future programming decisions. Actively promote OIT's AI training and consulting services across the university community through presentations, outreach meetings, campus events, and coordination with school‑based AI faculty leads who serve as disciplinary ambassadors. Qualifications Education Minimum: Bachelor's Degree or 2-4 years of equivalent work experience Preferred: 2-4 years of work experience in a relevant field such as education, learning sciences, information science, organizational development, instructional design, computer science, or a related discipline. Experience Minimum: 1-3 years of experience delivering technical training programs, professional development initiatives, or educational technology support, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across a wide range of roles and units. Demonstrated knowledge of widely used and emerging AI tools and platforms relevant to higher education, and their implications for workforce development, innovation, and institutional operations. Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible training and to deliver effectively across multiple modalities (in‑person, virtual, asynchronous) and formats (webinars, workshops, accelerators, self‑paced courses) to diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete projects, manage a complex workload, and work both independently and collaboratively in a cross‑functional, interdisciplinary environment. High comfort with technology; not necessarily a developer, but someone who learns new tools quickly, experiments readily, and troubleshoots confidently. Strong organizational and project management skills; able to manage a complex calendar of programming, multiple partner relationships, and competing deadlines without dropping things. Self‑directed and proactive; this role requires someone who identifies gaps, proposes solutions, and acts without waiting for direction on every decision. Collaborative and relationship‑oriented; able to build trust and working relationships across OIT, academic departments, and partner units (CTL, L&OD, Innovation Co‑Lab, Office of AI Strategy). Growth mindset; AI tools are evolving rapidly; the right person stays curious, adapts quickly, and brings their learning back to the program. Preferred: Experience designing and managing multi‑tiered or cohort‑based training programs that serve learners across a range of technical proficiency levels and professional contexts. Demonstrated understanding of program evaluation and assessment methodologies, including survey design (Qualtrics or similar), outcome tracking, and data‑driven approaches to iterative program improvement and ROI documentation. Demonstrated understanding of responsible AI frameworks around ethical use, data privacy, and academic integrity. Experience building and sustaining communities of practice, learning cohorts, or other structures that extend professional development beyond formal training sessions. Working Conditions This position is based in Durham, NC, with a hybrid schedule. Weekly in‑person presence on Duke's campus is expected. This is a 2‑year term‑limited position. Occasional evening programming possible for sessions or special events. Periodic travel to peer institution site visits or professional development events. Fast‑paced environment with evolving tools, priorities, and stakeholder needs; adaptability is essential. Who Will Thrive in This Role The best candidate for this job will get energy from making something complicated feel approachable, from seeing a skeptic try something new, and from building a program that didn't exist before. This person doesn't need to be the most technically advanced person in the room. They must be knowledgeable and genuinely curious about AI, relentlessly practical about what it can do for real people in real jobs, and skilled at connecting people to the right experts and training resources, whether that's "I've never heard of ChatGPT" or "I want to build an MCP server for my department's data pipeline." This person understands that AI is not a replacement for human insight but a tool to amplify it. They are energized by Duke's approach to AI: one that is human‑centered, trustworthy, and grounded in the institution's interdisciplinary culture and commitment to responsible innovation. They see training not as a checklist of sessions delivered, but as the mechanism by which an institution moves from awareness to adoption to genuine transformation. Choose Duke. Duke University's Office of Information Technology provides infrastructure, services, and support that power teaching, research, and administration across Duke. OIT is responsible for the university's AI tool ecosystem, including vended tools provided by OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic, as well as internally developed tools like DukeGPT, myGPTBuilder, and the AI Gateway. Duke is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunity without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy and pregnancy related conditions), sexual orientation or military status. Duke aspires to create a community built on collaboration, innovation, creativity, and belonging. Our collective success depends on the robust exchange of ideas – an exchange that is best when the rich diversity of our perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences flourishes. To achieve this exchange, it is essential that all members of the community feel secure and welcome, that the contributions of all individuals are respected, and that all voices are heard. All members of our community have a responsibility to uphold these values.
