Genomic Instability and Cancer Genetics - Tenure Track Faculty Position

The Genomic Instability and Cancer Genetics (GICG) Research Program at Rutgers Cancer Institute seeks outstanding investigators focused on the mechanisms of genomic instability, cancer genome evolution, and their translation into clinical applications. We invite applications for faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Appointments may be tenure track or tenured, depending on qualifications and experience.

The GICG program investigates how genomic instability arises, how defects in genome maintenance pathways drive tumor initiation and progression, how perturbations in these pathways influence tumor response to treatment. A key effort is on leveraging mechanism-based genomic and molecular markers to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities. Research areas span DNA repair and replication fidelity, chromosome segregation, cancer genome evolution, and gene expression and tissue homeostasis programs that shape tumor development and therapeutic response. Program investigators integrate mechanistic, computational, and translational approaches to define how genome instability drives cancer and to exploit these vulnerabilities for therapeutic intervention.

We seek candidates pursuing basic, translational, or preclinical research in cancer genetics and genomics using cutting edge approaches. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, mechanisms of genomic instability and DNA repair dysfunction, therapeutic vulnerabilities associated with altered cancer genomes, molecular and cellular mechanisms of radiation and genotoxic response, co-adaptation between the tumor microenvironment and evolving cancer cells, and the genetics of cancer predisposition syndromes.

Successful candidates will establish or contribute to an innovative, independent, and collaborative research program addressing fundamental questions in cancer biology and genomic instability. Interdisciplinary and translational research approaches are strongly encouraged. Faculty will also have opportunities to participate in teaching activities for medical students and residents, including lectures and mentorship within their areas of expertise. Applicants should hold a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in a relevant discipline and have completed postdoctoral or equivalent research training. Candidates should demonstrate a strong publication record in cancer genetics, genomics, or related fields and show clear potential to secure independent peer-reviewed funding.
