POSITION TITLE: MATERIAL HANDLER


REPORTS TO: Plant Manager


JOB CATEGORY: Conversion


RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: Grade 12 diploma or equivalent training


SUMMARY

To provide material for the efficient running of the conversion area, using a tow motor and lift carts duties will include but not be limited to preparing rolls onto lift carts; removing and wrapping finished product, weighing rolls and preparing accurate information for tags; and ensuring skids and boxes are in appropriate l ocations. Maintain an organized and safe environment , c ommunicate and work cooperatively with your supervisor and members of your shift team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure all Bag Machine Operators have material for their orders;
• Prepare rolls on lift carts, waiting for change over whenever possible;
• Stage all film from trucks in the proper rows;
• Perform and document tow motor safety checks daily prior to use of tow motor ;
• Remove and wrap all finished product from the bag machine area;
• Maintain a full supp ly of CHEP Skids and 40 x 48 skids are available for use;
• Remove full core boxes to Staging area and replace with empty boxes;
• Replace empty box lifts, ensuring a minimum amount of material is available at all times;
• Weigh and tag (concise, legible) full scrap boxes (or gaylords) according to colour and replace with empty boxes;
• Remove all empty skids and wooden blocks from film area, placing the blocks in the Staging area bin and skids in their appropriate location in Staging;
• Ensure all horizontal rolls i n staging or conversion are properly chocked;
• Maintain the bag machine area ensuring a clean, safe and organized environment free of debris (ie strapping, paper, pieces of wood from broken skids etc)

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITILIES

• Ensure all scrap, empty cores, film rolls, skids and cased bags are stored in correct designated areas;
• Ability to fill in and operate pallet truck , tow motors and lift carts as required;
• Adherence to all Health & Safety, Fire Emergency, and Polyethics Policies and Procedu res;
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent training;
• Preferred knowledge of manufacturing or production processes and procedures;
• Ability to work in a labour demanding environment: stand for up to three (3) hours at a time, lift up to fifty ( 50 ) pounds and guide up to 5 00 po und film rolls onto a lift cart;
• Well organized, with a good attention to detail and accuracy and sound communication skil ls.
