CNC Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and validating CNC programs that support complex manufacturing operations involving large-scale, high-precision components. This role plays a critical part in ensuring machining efficiency, product quality, and operational reliability through advanced programming, process improvement, and technical support. Key responsibilities include CNC program development and verification, troubleshooting and operator support, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and tooling strategies. The position is essential to maintaining safe, efficient, and production-ready machining operations within a heavy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and maintain CNC programs utilizing CAM software such as Mastercam, Siemens NX, Esprit 2000, or equivalent platforms.
• Program and support multi-axis milling, turning, and grinding operations.
• Verify CNC programs using simulation and verification software such as Vericut before production release.
• Create and troubleshoot advanced CNC macros including Fanuc Macro B, Siemens macros, Okuma macros, and Renishaw probing routines.
• Provide technical support to Manufacturing Engineering teams and machine operators during machine startups, rebuilds, and process improvements.
• Troubleshoot CNC programming and machining issues on the production floor.
• Develop and maintain workstation instructions, setup documentation, and operator standard work procedures.
• Support tooling and fixturing selection, implementation, and optimization for CNC machining operations.
• Establish tooling consumption rates and inventory requirements to support production efficiency.
• Develop inspection plans, quality documentation, and manufacturing process controls.
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing processes and operational performance.
• Communicate project status, technical issues, and recommendations to stakeholders.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
• In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED with additional manufacturing experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing, machining, CNC programming, or operations experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing CNC programs for multi-axis machining operations.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment with large-scale components and complex machining processes.
• Practical machining experience with exotic alloys, specialty metals, or heavy industrial components preferred.

Special Requirements

• Advanced knowledge of CNC machine controls including Fanuc, Siemens, and Okuma.
• Experience utilizing CNC verification software such as Vericut.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Ability to work independently within a manufacturing environment.
• Must be able to support production operations and provide shop floor technical assistance as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong proficiency with Mastercam, Siemens NX, Esprit 2000, or similar CAD/CAM software.
• Experience with 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX, or equivalent.
• Advanced understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing best practices.
• Strong knowledge of Fanuc Macro B, Siemens macros, Okuma macros, and probing systems.
• Experience with multi-axis machining, milling, turning, and grinding applications.
• Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent technical documentation and process development skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering documentation systems.

Additional Desired Characteristics

• Experience supporting large-scale heavy manufacturing operations.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience leading process improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with machining components weighing up to 50,000 pounds.
• Project management experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience developing standardized work instructions and quality documentation.
• Understanding of production planning, inventory management, and tooling optimization strategies.

Work Environment

• Primarily located within a manufacturing and production facility environment.
• Frequent interaction with CNC machine operators, manufacturing engineers, and production personnel.
• May require extended periods on the shop floor supporting machining operations.
• Occasional lifting, standing, walking, and equipment interaction may be required.
• May require occasional overtime based on production schedules and project demands.
