Lead Hardware & Manufacturing Systems Engineer

Salary: $154,000 - 194,000 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Extensive hands-on experience building and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems
• Demonstrated technical leadership spanning mechanical and electrical engineering, systems integration, and testing
• Experience developing manufacturing processes, tooling, automated test systems, and validation methods
• A track record of improving quality, first-pass yield, reliability, and throughput
• Experience taking hardware from development through scalable production
• Strong engineering judgment and structured problem-solving under pressure
• Ability to mentor and guide engineers without direct authority
• Preferred: Experience with robotics, industrial automation, or similarly complex hardware
• Preferred: Familiarity with test software, Python, SQL, or test automation
• Preferred: Experience implementing MES/PLM systems and managing engineering change control
• Preferred: Experience scaling manufacturing at a startup or fast-growing hardware company
• Preferred: Experience applying AI and automation to improve engineering workflows

• Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, and test issues
• Work alongside engineers to diagnose failures and implement lasting fixes
• Establish technical standards and promote disciplined execution
• Develop and validate manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and work instructions
• Remove production blockers and address recurring defects
• Improve first-pass yield, cycle time, labor efficiency, throughput, and cost
• Develop test strategy, automation, and infrastructure from component testing and robot bring-up through end-of-line testing and FAT
• Build dependable test systems with clear acceptance criteria and traceable results, identifying defects before bring-up, final testing, or customer deployment
• Establish process controls, error-proofing, and root-cause corrective actions
• Lead failure investigations and decisions on nonconforming materials
• Work with Production, R&D, and Fleet Reliability to prevent recurring defects
• Partner with R&D on design for manufacturability, assembly, testing, and serviceability
• Manage release readiness, engineering change implementation, and controlled production cut-ins
• Transition new products into stable, repeatable production
• Manage manufacturing configuration, process control, and product genealogy in MES/PLM systems, including ION and Atlas
• Apply data, automation, and AI to improve engineering productivity
• Develop the processes, testing capabilities, and infrastructure needed to support increasing production volumes
• Improve robot bring-up and FAT performance, reduce rework and repeat failures, and strengthen test coverage, diagnostics, and traceability
• Help ensure engineering changes reach Production smoothly and new products enter repeatable production on schedule
