As a Mental Health Clinician working in the Boca Police Department, you'll bring your expertise directly into the field-conducting risk assessments, guiding individuals and families through challenging moments, and serving as a vital bridge between behavioral health services and public safety. General Statement of Job: The Mental Health Clinician performs professional-level work within the Police Services Department, providing behavioral health services that include crisis intervention, risk assessment, and case management in coordination with law enforcement personnel and community resources. Work involves responding to individuals experiencing mental health crises, conducting assessments, facilitating referrals for treatment, and providing education and support to individuals and families. The position requires field-based work alongside law enforcement officers, collaboration with internal and external partners, and participation in training and community outreach activities. Work is performed under general supervision and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and professional standards. Trainee Eligible:
Candidate must have Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling AND have obtained the State of Florida Mental Health Counselor Intern license to be hired as a Trainee Mental Health Clinician. Upon successfully meeting the minimum requirements of the Mental Health Clinician classification as outlined below, the Trainee designation would be removed.
A Trainee Mental Health Clinician will work under the close supervision and day-to-day direction of the licensed Mental Health Clinician on staff.

BENEFITS SUMMARY
Full-Time Non-Bargaining Employees ANNUAL LEAVE: Shall accrue prior to an employee attaining permanent status in the classified service and may be used after six (6) months of employment at the sole discretion of the Department Head, but it shall not be paid out upon resignation or termination unless the employee has attained permanent status (one full year). The maximum accrual is 360 hours.

SICK LEAVE: 8 hours per month. Any hours in excess of 960 will be paid off annually at 50%. Upon retirement, employees with a minimum of 5 years continuous service will receive 50% of sick leave balance. Termination for reasons other than retirement shall be entitled to payment for accrued, but unused sick leave, as follows:

- Provides support and assistance to law enforcement personnel, concerning mental health related issues;
- Provides resources and intervention to subjects in crisis;
- Conducts risk assessment and referrals for treatment;
- Provides support, education and guidance to the referred individual and family;
- Manages workload as assigned;
- Requires work in the field alongside law enforcement personnel.
- Visits community resource facilities in the area;
- Provides training and acts as a community liaison;
- Performs related tasks as required;
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Police Services Department operations, policies, and procedures
- Principles, practices, and techniques of mental health counseling, social work, and behavioral health interventions
- Crisis intervention, risk assessment, and management strategies
- Case management and treatment referral processes
- Community mental health resources and support services
- Applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to mental health and confidentiality
- Conducting assessments, evaluations, and risk analyses
- Using personal computers, office software, and electronic case management systems
- Communicating effectively with individuals in crisis, families, and diverse populations
- Providing education, guidance, and support to clients and families
- Facilitating community outreach, training, and liaison activities
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement personnel, mental health professionals and community partners

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field.
- Current State of Florida licensure as a Mental Health Counselor or Clinical Social Worker under Florida Statute Chapter 491.
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field.
- State of Florida Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern license
- Possession of a valid State of Florida class "E" driver license.
- This position requires availability for on-call duty 24 hours per day.

- An option to enroll in a Defined Contribution Retirement Plan. The Defined Contribution Retirement Plan will not require a mandatory contribution. The City will contribute seven (7%) percent of the annual base wages annually. The vesting period for this plan shall be one (1) year from date of hire in the classified service, which coincides with your one-year probationary period.
- An option to enroll in a Defined Benefit Retirement Plan option is available. There is a ten (10) year vesting period with a multiplier of 2.00% at normal retirement and a mandatory seven and three-quarters (7.75%) percent employee contribution.
- The two (2) options will be fully explained prior to an irrevocable selection.
