Aviation Teacher for LESA High School Aviation Class

Position Details Livingston Educational Service Agency (LESA) in partnership with Crosswinds Aviation at Livingston County Airport (KOZW) offers a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Aviation program for high school juniors and seniors. First‑year students complete a private pilot ground course, while second‑year students receive a curriculum that reviews PPL ground, obtains a Remote Pilot Certificate, performs cross‑country planning, and covers instrument ground and leadership career development. This role involves teaching and managing the program during the school year from August to June, Monday through Friday, with a morning session from 7:30 am to 9:00 am and an afternoon session from 12:50 pm to 2:20 pm. Duties & Responsibilities Teach high‑school CTE ground school in accordance with LESA and Crosswinds Aviation classroom expectations and teacher handbook. Ensure CTE curriculum requirements are met and review compliance on an ongoing basis. Manage CTE requirements and requests from LESA, supporting class records and providing CTE compliance documentation for CIP Self‑Review/GEMSCIP. Coordinate closely with the LESA coordinator to ensure students are on track and progressing successfully in the classroom. Teach classes daily from late August through mid‑June. Manage attendance, grades, exam schedules and submit all required reports to LESA promptly according to their schedule. Communicate with LESA contacts regularly regarding student progress. Address student concerns and report back to LESA contacts for escalation and support. Coordinate field trips and guest speakers with assistance from the Crosswinds Aviation high‑school team. Attend events at local high schools or other locations as needed in coordination with Crosswinds Aviation Client Relations & Marketing Director. Manage and coordinate members and meetings for the aviation‑specific advisory committee. Administrative Tasks Manage the CTE Aviation program schedule and logistics. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED Basic Ground Instructor Certificate, Advanced Ground Instructor Certificate, or Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) Two years of aviation industry or training experience Preferred Experience teaching in group settings with youth Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Extensive knowledge of aviation ground school requirements and operations. Knowledge of Part 61 regulations (desired). Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software. Strong interpersonal skills for handling sensitive and confidential situations with poise, tact, and diplomacy. Ability to provide verbal and written instruction to students in English. Attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials. Capacity to work in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands, and to seek management assistance when appropriate. Schedule Monday to Friday, two sessions (morning and afternoon).
