Job Title: RN - Labor & Delivery/Postpartum Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor & Delivery/Postpartum Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years Labor & Delivery RN experience, 1 year OB Surg Tech experience License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring, Basic Cardiac Rhythm certification required Must-Have: - Strong clinical assessment and Labor & Delivery skills for a Level 1 Trauma hospital - IV insertion and care - Central line management - Care coordination with an interdisciplinary team Description: This position requires an experienced RN in Labor & Delivery and Postpartum. The facility has 637 licensed beds, offers a Level 1 Trauma Designation, and serves as a teaching hospital. Unit includes 9 Labor Beds, 3 Operating Rooms, 4 Post Anesthesia Care Units, 11 Antepartum beds, 4 triage beds, and 27 Postpartum beds. The typical patient census is between 2 to 14 in Labor & Delivery. Patient types include laboring patients and antepartum patients. The RN will follow AWHONN guidelines for patient ratios. OB Techs will be assigned 2-3 per shift. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Fetal Monitoring. Basic Cardiac Rhythm certification is required, including passing an EKG competency exam. Surgical Techs require BLS and CST certification. Duties of the RN involve strong clinical assessment, patient care coordination, and working with an interdisciplinary team. The RN will engage in IV insertion, care, and central line management. The surgical tech will assist with scrub surgeries and setup for vaginal deliveries, among other tasks. Support within the department includes OB Surgical Techs and Certified Nursing Assistants. The RN will also assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating patients, and transporting as needed. Technology utilized includes EPIC for EMR, along with specific equipment for vital signs monitoring and pain management. A rapid turnover admission and discharge protocol will be utilized. Floating may occur to adult medical-surgical and telemetry units. The unit culture is busy, emphasizing teamwork among staff.
