Schedule Monday - Friday (10 am – 7:30 pm) Job Description Summary Provide nursing care and support for cardiac catheterization procedures, monitor hemodynamic response, document findings, and collaborate with physicians and the cath lab team to ensure safe and effective care. Position Responsibilities Cardiac Cath Lab Responsibilities Evaluate, assess and document patient’s hemodynamic response to therapeutic intervention by accurate cardiovascular monitoring. Report abnormal rhythm to physician. Monitor, evaluate, document and troubleshoot patient’s hemodynamic response using cath lab specialty equipment. Accurately transcribe, review and carry out physician orders. Assess and reassess as per hospital policy. Competent in the insertion of peripheral intravenous catheters. Monitor, evaluate and intervene appropriately with patients receiving conscious sedation. Demonstrate appropriate safety measures regarding potential radiation exposure. Assess and implement safety devices pre‑intra‑post cardiac cath procedures. Demonstrate proper groin management for arterial sheath interventions. Assessment Perform initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and family. Assess chief complaint and notify physician within 15 minutes of arrival. Obtain and document a complete nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors to develop a plan of care within eight hours of admission. Perform and document an accurate systems assessment at the beginning of each procedure. Respond to diagnostic data and initiate appropriate action or intervention. Assess patient education needs on admission. Assess psychosocial needs specific to patient’s age, growth, and development. Planning Initiate a plan of care within eight hours of admission. Establish priorities for patient care based on patient needs. Implementation Verbalize understanding of patient diagnosis and plan of care. Safely and correctly initiate and document nursing interventions in emergency situations. Prepare intravenous solutions using aseptic technique. Administer, observe and document intravenous therapy according to hospital policy. Administer medications within 30 minutes of scheduled time, observe and document effectiveness, and recognize/report adverse reactions immediately. Provide individualized instructions to patient/significant other regarding the plan of care. Demonstrate safe and correct use of unit‑specific equipment. Ensure that each patient’s general hygiene needs are met. Perform pre‑operative and post‑operative care and instruction for each assigned cardiac cath patient. Adhere to standard precautions including hand hygiene guidelines at all times. Document specific patient valuables on designated form when received and immediately arrange for appropriate storage. Perform dressing changes using aseptic technique. Collect and label specimens per policy when ordered by physician. Perform bedside glucose monitoring according to policy. Report all abnormal findings immediately to physician. Insert intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique. Administer oxygen therapy according to physician order. Transfer patients in/out of the cath lab efficiently, obtain a complete and correct set of physician orders, complete transfer summary, and ensure appropriate completed referral forms accompany intra‑facility transfers. Demonstrate safe and correct use of restraints. Evaluation Document/report patient responses or outcomes resulting from nursing interventions, treatments/procedures, interpersonal interactions, and patient/family education. Evaluate and document patient’s progress toward established goals/objectives. Update/revise individualized patient care standards based on patient/family responses and progress toward goals. Professional and Staff Development Obtain 100% mandatory hospital and unit‑specific in‑services annually, prior to evaluation date. Plan, present, and document unit in‑service as required by level. Document competency in clinical skills annually. Attend staff meetings as required. Use established lines of communication for resolution of problems and interpersonal conflict. Leadership Present a minimum of two in‑services and two patient conferences. Attend 75% staff meetings. Serve as a preceptor/clinical resource. Function as a charge nurse and assist in applying financial management principles—e.g., staffing, scheduling, decreasing LOS, triaging, supply management. Chair or co‑chair unit‑based PI committee meetings. Participate in clinical competency compliance of staff. Qualifications License/Registration/Certification Current FL Nursing License Current Basic Life Support Education None Experience 2 years in RN position within a telemetry‑monitored area or specialty patient care unit.
