Staff RN - Experienced Bedside - NICU 7 - Full time/Nights

Brief Overview Coordinates professional nursing and individualized, family‑centered care to patients/families through the use of the nursing process and clinical skills in accordance with standards and hospital policies and procedures. On‑call responsibilities vary depending on department. Varied schedules to include weekend and holiday patterns. Essential Functions Conduct individualized age‑specific patient/family assessments according to defined unit scope and nursing practice standards, identifying nursing diagnoses, collaborative problems, and/or protocols. Collects and documents data related to patient’s individualized care. Demonstrates age‑specific competency in assessment of patients by obtaining and interpreting information in terms of patient needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of the range of treatment needed. Assesses patient/family need for education and uses an individualized approach in delivery style. Assesses family expectations for, and involvement in, the assessment and continuous care or treatment of the patient. Identifies nursing diagnoses, collaborative problems, and/or protocols for each patient based on assessment at the time of admission. Performs reassessment based on unit standards, protocols, and changes in patient condition. Communicates changes to appropriate persons (MD, Charge RN, family) as indicated. Obtains permits for catheterization procedures after teaching patient/family about procedure and related complications. Collects and documents data related to patient’s response to procedure and changes in condition as per hospital policy. Demonstrates age‑specific competency in assessing patients’ response to medications and treatment, prioritizing interventions. Develops individualized patient/family plan of care using collaborative practice guidelines and protocols to meet identified needs. Utilizes assessment data from the healthcare team to individualize appropriate goals and actions for the patient, including collaboration with the family and the healthcare team. Forms goals and outcomes based on assessment data. Revises plan of care based on patient’s condition, interdisciplinary input, and family needs. Prioritizes patient interventions based on assessments/reassessments. Implements and evaluates nursing actions in accordance with the individualized plan of care and patient condition/needs. Oversees that the nursing and interdisciplinary plan of care/goals are coordinated, implemented, evaluated, and revised as needed. Identifies need for interdisciplinary involvement/outside resources and follows through. Incorporates critical thinking into the delivery of clinical skills and patient response to orders, tests, labs, medications, and treatments. Demonstrates clinical competence in administering interventions according to identified standards and age‑specific needs. Provides and/or coordinates with other disciplines patient/family education according to identified care needs. Documentation reflects accurate assessment, evaluation, modification, and patient’s response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions/procedures. Entries in the medical record follow hospital policy (date, time, appropriate abbreviations, legibility). Documentation is completed within established timeframes (admission assessments, daily patient flowsheets, etc.). Reviews and updates computerized care plan to accurately reflect plan of care. Ensures discharge instructions clearly state patient care needs after discharge. Regular attendance at work is essential. Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section. Assist FCC Coordinator in arranging and coordinating appointments prior to the delivery process. Accept assignment to mentor student nurse observation experience in unit. Accept assignment to share/teach knowledge and provide clinical support as relief preceptor for new staff. Professionally seek opportunities to help teammates during shift as needed. Accept and complete other assigned tasks in a professional manner. Education Qualifications Associate’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing – required. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing – required. Experience Qualifications Minimum 1 year of RN experience – required. Experience with pediatric patients – preferred. Previous experience with EPIC – preferred. Skills and Abilities Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills. Licenses and Certifications RN – State licensure/compact state licensure current and valid in Nebraska – required upon hire. BLS – Basic Life Support through AHA – required upon hire. PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (except NICU) within 180 days – required. NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation (NICU only) within 180 days – required. ACLS – within 6 months of hire (Cath Lab only) – required. ENPC – Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification (ED only) within 1 year – required. TNCC – Trauma Nursing Core Course (ED only) within 1 year – required. For RNs in Radiology Nursing, training in all areas of Radiology Nursing and completion of required competencies – required.
