Work Arrangement: On-Site
Pay: $30-$35/h (negotiable)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The World Equestrian Center - Ocala is seeking an Assistant Horticulturist to help lead the maintenance and enhancement of its grounds.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing landscape maintenance, irrigation, plant health, seasonal color, contractors, and Grounds team members while maintaining high standards across the property.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Oversee landscape installation, maintenance, and property enhancements
• Manage mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, planting, mulching, weed control, pest management, and seasonal cleanup
• Support and expand the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program
• Coordinate seasonal flower displays, including two annual color change-outs
• Manage plant décor setups for WEC-sponsored events
• Monitor irrigation and plant nutrition with contractors
• Supervise landscape contractors and ensure quality standards are met
• Develop winter and frost protection plans for plant material
• Recommend horticultural equipment, products, and technologies
• Maintain chemical, equipment, and supply inventories in compliance with Florida Department of Agriculture regulations
• Train, coach, and develop Grounds team members while promoting safe work practices
• Collaborate with horticulture teams at Roberts Quarter Horses and Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
• Bachelor's degree in Plant Science, Horticultural Science, Agricultural Sciences, or related field
• 3-5 years of related experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver's license
• Florida Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License OR ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment
• Knowledge of turf, ornamental horticulture, annual flowers, and arboriculture preferred
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally
• Ability to operate landscaping equipment, vehicles, and hand tools safely
