At DGS, we are one team, working together to develop mission solutions – anywhere, anytime.The Machinist fabricates precision engineered components used in the production of manufactured products and construction supply. The Machinist sets up and operates manufacturing equipment, inspecting completed parts to ensure quality and accuracy. This role involves operating a laser cutting table, press brake, sheet metal shear and other machining equipment to support fabrication and production processes. The Machinist conducts inspections of and preventative maintenance on machining equipment and performs other trade tasks in line with needs of the business.Duties and Responsibilities / Essential FunctionsDevelop manufacturing plans based on part specificationsMeasure and mark raw materials for production.Set up and prepare machinery and equipment required for each stage of the manufacturing process.Operate and utilize laser cutting tables, press brakes, shears and other machining equipment.Operate equipment safely and accurately to complete production tasks.Monitor production activities, troubleshoot issues, and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.Perform routine maintenance and upkeep on machine shop equipment.Assist with other day-to-day production activities in other trade areas.Skills and SpecificationsFamiliarity with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) software and machinery used for computer-aided manufacturing.Knowledge of how to operate grinders, lathes, milling machines and other machining equipment.Ability to take precise measurements and perform basic mathematical calculations.Demonstrable skill in operating laser tables, press brakes, shears, and other machining equipment.Thorough knowledge of industry safety standards and procedures.Ability to follow direction, collaborate effectively, and contribute to team objectives.Excellent oral communication skills.Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.Ability to manage time effectively.Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position does not require the supervision of direct reports.Work EnvironmentThis position operates in professional office, workshop, production facility, and field environments which include working near moving mechanical parts, non-weather wet or humid conditions, and extreme cold and heat, using tools of the trade and other equipment.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb, and stand. Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. may occur.Position Type / Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time, on-site, hourly position. Standard days and hours are 40 hours per week, weekends and extended hours as needed. Ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends will be required based on business needs.Relocation IncentiveDGS will pay a one-time, completely discretionary relocation incentive of $5,000.00 for a qualified applicant to relocate to Rome, NY for daily work at the DGS location there. The incentive will be payable once a qualified and selected candidate provides evidence of relocation and is contingent (vests) upon satisfactory completion of one year of misconduct-free employment, otherwise repayment of the incentive is required.
