Title: Instructional Specialist for Secondary Education

Primary Function:

Under limited supervision, the Instructional Specialist for Secondary Education provides professional leadership, consultation, and support to the district's secondary educators, ensuring the implementation of effective classroom instruction. The specialist also supports administrators in achieving district goals, assists schools in obtaining necessary instructional materials and resources, and performs related professional and administrative duties as assigned. This position reports to the Director of Instruction, K-12.

Qualifications:

• Valid teaching certificate in the appropriate subject area(s) required. Master's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level required. Demonstrated knowledge of secondary curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders.

Reports to: Director of Secondary

Essential Functions:

• Provide professional leadership, consultation, and support to the District's 6-12 teachers to ensure the delivery of effective classroom instruction and programming.
• Maintain current knowledge of secondary education trends and new or pending legislation to ensure compliance with external regulations and to communicate pertinent information to administrators and staff.
• Serve as a liaison to the Director of Instruction and the Executive Director of Academics, collaborating in the planning, development, coordination, and evaluation of district-wide instructional initiatives for grades 6-12.
• Maintain accurate records and statistics regarding trends, needs, and successes at the secondary level to inform planning and decision-making.
• Ensure all 6-12 teachers are able to effectively teach state standards-based lessons.
• Facilitate the preparation and continuous updating of secondary curriculum documents, including local school improvement plans.
• Compile and analyze data to assist in preparing reports for local, state, and federal agencies and to support planning and evaluation of the secondary education program.
• Collaborate with appropriate staff to review student enrollment, staffing needs, and assignment of duties, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations.
• Recommend courses of study and/or support services to be offered, based on survey data and assessment results.
• Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of secondary programs and initiatives through analysis of student data, including benchmarks, common assessments, NWEA MAP, EOC, and SC Ready assessment results.
• Identify, promote, and facilitate staff development opportunities for secondary teachers based on assessment data, classroom observations, and the implementation of new courses of study.
• Ensure that secondary curriculum materials, instructional strategies, and classroom procedures are aligned to maximize student achievement and success.
• Serve as a consultant to 6-12 teachers, instructional coaches, and school administrators on the development and implementation of secondary curricula and special programs, including the evaluation and selection of teaching materials.
• Share effective instructional strategies with teachers individually and through in-service workshops; model lessons; observe teachers in the classroom; provide feedback and recommendations for improvement; and offer ongoing support through professional development opportunities.
• Provide testing support by distributing standardized test preparation materials, analyzing assessment results, and facilitating related meetings and workshops to enhance student outcomes.
• Offer guidance, leadership, and support to 6-12 teachers to promote effective instructional practices and student achievement.
• Interact and communicate effectively with various groups and individuals, including the immediate supervisor, Executive Director of Academics, Superintendent, district administrators and staff, school administrators and teachers, Board members, State Department of Education personnel, committees, parents, students, and the general public.
• Attend training, conferences, and workshops as needed to stay current with best practices and enhance job knowledge and skills.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall goals of the district.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated understanding of secondary curriculum, including scheduling and all subject areas relevant to grades 6-12.

Knowledge of laws and policies related to the education of students at the secondary level.

Familiarity with effective teaching practices and instructional strategies that support student learning and achievement.

Considerable knowledge of the organization and communication channels within the school system to facilitate effective collaboration and support.

Knowledge of conflict resolution strategies to address and resolve issues constructively.

Ability to provide technical leadership in the instruction of students, including curriculum development and instructional support.

Considerable knowledge of secondary instructional coaching practices to enhance teacher effectiveness and student outcomes.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace to support administrative and instructional tasks.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of individuals, groups, and stakeholders.

Skills in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and collaborating with various groups.

Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and standards for secondary education services.

Knowledge of program evaluation methods and the ability to make recommendations for program improvements.

Understanding of adult learning theory to support teacher professional development. ? Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate instructional programs and initiatives.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with school personnel, staff, and other stakeholders.

Capacity to provide leadership and supervision in the planning, development, and implementation of new, modified, or improved secondary education programs and services.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships essential to fulfilling work assignments.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaboration and engagement.

Ability to analyze and interpret data and apply problem-solving skills to support decision-making.

Commitment to comply with confidentiality requirements as outlined in local, state, and federal policies and statutes.

REPORTS TO: Director of Instruction, K- 12

Physical Demands:

• The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
• Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle and travel throughout the local education agency (LEA) as needed.
• Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands and fingers for manual dexterity in an office environment.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally. ? Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust visual focus. ? Must possess the ability to talk and hear effectively in order to communicate clearly.

Work Environment:

1. The employee regularly works indoors in typical office or school settings and frequently works near video displays.
2. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
3. Regular coordination with school administrators is required, as well as daily liaison activities throughout the division.
4. Contacts include media personnel, participation in school division activities, and regular interactions with teachers, parents, students, and other community members some of which may be contentious.
5. Occasional contact with School Board members, state administrators, and representatives of federal agencies is required.

Terms of Employment: 205 Days

Salary Grade: 130

FLSA Status: Exempt
