PSCS Social Worker Adv, Criminal Justice (Social Worker Advanced)

GRADE: ASTD19 LOCATION: Howard County, 7555 Waterloo Road, Jessup, MD 20794 Position Duties The PSCS Social Worker, Advanced, Criminal Justice performs professional counseling at the Licensed Clinical Social Worker level, providing services to incarcerated individuals with mental disorders. Responsibilities include: Assess the incarcerated individual’s situation to determine appropriate services using evaluation, intervention, and treatment regimens. Intervene in crisis situations to de‑escalate and provide acute care using suicide prevention planning and crisis intervention techniques. Develop treatment plans and provide treatment to inmates with significant mental or emotional disorders through individual and/or group counseling. Develop and implement behavioral management plans for inmates that are disruptive to the operation of Patuxent. Refer incarcerated individuals for other services such as psychiatric care, inpatient mental health services, case management planning, medical evaluations, addictions services, etc. Document services rendered in the EPHR in accordance with established procedures. Review charts/EPHR as needed and assigned by department supervisor. Adhere to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct and participate in continuing professional development. Collaborate with other professionals in carrying out research in correctional work. Conduct individual counseling in accordance with the needs of the assigned population. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Mental Health or designee and/or institutional supervisor. Maintain statistics to summarize daily psychological services completed. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings as needed. Serve on special work groups and projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: Must have a license as a certified social worker‑clinical from the State Board of Social Work Examiners. A doctoral degree in social work from an accredited institution may substitute for up to one year of experience. Experience: Three years of clinical and therapeutic or other social work services involving rehabilitation counseling or forensic social work services. Additional experience: U.S. Armed Forces military service at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher may substitute for one year of experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Applicants must be licensed as a certified social worker‑clinical by the State Board of Social Work Examiners before appointment. Employees may be required to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license if duties involve operating a motor vehicle. Special Requirements Meet mandatory continuing education standards set by the hiring department. Complete an approved training program in group counseling techniques. Complete the Level I Counseling course certified by the Maryland AIDS Professional Education Center, if required. Qualify for and successfully complete the Entry‑Level Training Academy operated by the Police and Correctional Training Commissions. Benefits Health, dental, and vision plans at a low cost.
