Animal Care & Adoption Specialist

Provide customer service, perform adoptions, record‑keeping, general housekeeping, and miscellaneous tasks. This is a full‑time position with a salary of $19/hr. Responsibilities Feeding – ensure each animal receives the proper amount and type of food and always has fresh water (unless medically prohibited). Cleaning – keep all animals in a clean, comfortable environment with appropriate bedding. Disinfect according to protocols and remove fecal matter or debris; maintain odor‑free areas. Infection control – consistently practice infection control procedures, wearing PPE when necessary. Socialization – provide proper social contact and document self‑care experiences. Record‑keeping – log behaviors, eating habits, and any abnormalities; update coworkers. General housekeeping – keep work stations, common areas, and surrounding spaces clean and neat. Laundry – complete laundry as needed. Grooming – keep animals clean and brushed; clip nails; maintain eye and ear hygiene. Bathe animals with fecal matter immediately; ensure adoption center animals are odor‑free and well‑presented. General wellbeing – promptly contact supervisor if an animal shows signs of illness. Exercise – ensure each animal receives adequate daily exercise. Front desk – keep reception area neat and clean at all times. Miscellaneous – assist with animal intake and report unsafe or broken equipment to supervisor. Adoptions Demonstrate excellent customer service with prospective adopters and clients. Quickly understand client needs and initiate the matchmaking process. Ensure new clients complete the adoption survey. Provide walk‑throughs of resident animals. Describe physical and behavioral attributes of animals. Make courteous inquiries of relevant information (e.g., pet history). Build rapport with potential adopters. Educate adopters in responsible pet ownership. Supervise and mentor volunteers. Qualifications Detail oriented and precise. Kind and compassionate. Able to follow directions. Organized. Patient. Maintains a clean, uncluttered environment. Efficient and quick. Team‑player with collaborative mindset. Specific Work Requirements Requires ability to walk, bend, stand, lift, reach, stoop, carry, push, and pull for at least 8 hours per day. Lift packages and large bags of food (25‑40 pounds) and kitty litter up to 40 pounds. Lift large animals for grooming. Speak, hear, and understand the job. Write neatly and communicate with others. Have visual acuity sufficient for accurate records. Restrain animals when necessary. Attend staff meetings and training classes. Understand the animals’ needs. Preferences Retail or customer‑service experience. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. At least 1 year of animal care experience (a plus).
