Recreation Program Coordinator

General Statement of Duties An employee in this class is responsible for assisting with the planning and scheduling of various activities and programs within the Department. Work requires the employee to determine and project needed equipment and supplies, determine the priority and schedule of work assignments, and reassess daily work objectives based upon the schedule of recreational, athletic, or special events. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director, and evaluated through conferences, written reports, observation of work, and appearance of parks, recreational, and athletics facilities. Duties and Responsibilities/Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Helps plan, schedule and organize recreation programs and special events. Handles registration; responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for classes, referrals, etc. Sets up chairs, tables and arranges for a variety of center and outside events and programs. Loads, transports and unloads various materials, equipment and supplies to a number of locations and facilities. Performs routine set-up, repair and maintenance on a variety of equipment. Orders supplies; promotes programs; runs errands. General knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation work. General knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and secretarial techniques. General knowledge of park maintenance equipment and tools. General knowledge of hazards of the work and the safety precautions required. Ability to operate equipment and use hand tools. General knowledge of agency programs and policies. Ability to make arithmetical calculations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants and the general public. Ability to enforce rules and regulations; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Desirable Education and Experience High school diploma and minimal experience in recreation programming and various sports; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Physical Requirements This is light to medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound. Visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms-length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
