TPWD - Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger)

Position Summary Under the direction of the Complex Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey‑level) building maintenance and construction work for the Davis Mountains State Park‑Indian Lodge Complex. The incumbent is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles and for providing visitor information and assistance. Responsibilities Conduct preventive maintenance, including cleaning, inspecting, and repairing facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. Operate a variety of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, and power tools. Provide visitor information and assistance to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Perform resource management tasks as directed by park management and regional natural resource coordinators. Participate in the safety program and assist in safety inspections of facilities and equipment. Work under general supervision with a moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Three (3) years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience. Valid Texas state driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Experience in general maintenance, including repairing buildings, equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems. Grounds maintenance experience operating lawn mowers, tractors, trucks, and hand or power tools. Experience working with the public. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, mechanical, and grounds maintenance and repair tasks. Building and facility repair techniques. General maintenance techniques. Basic mathematics. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Effective verbal and written communication. Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment. Ability to make minor repairs to facilities, equipment, and vehicles. Ability to provide quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co‑workers and contacts. Ability to make sound judgments and work independently with little or no supervision. Ability to work effectively with the public and co‑workers, as a member of a team, and to perform manual labor (lifting up to 50 lbs). Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program. Working Conditions Required to work in a public park‑hotel complex, including overnight and day use. The position requires 40 hours per week, with varied schedules outside typical 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime and on‑call duties are necessary. Work is performed outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions, and requires physical labor.
