Structural Project Designer

Structural Project DesignerIMEG is hiring a Structural Project Designer in Raleigh, NC; Greensboro, NC; Charlotte, NC; or Norfolk, VA, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and support senior staff on larger, high-complexity work. You'll work closely with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, including analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures. You will also be expected to work within the project's monetary budget and train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead structural analysis and design efforts for a variety of building materials and structural systemsDevelop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in alignment with code requirements and IMEG standardsPartner with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong working relationshipsSupport project execution through planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectivesDocument design decisions and client instructions; monitor progress against percent complete and fee expendedAnalyze engineering problems and propose practical, efficient solutions in coordination with senior engineers and consultantsPerform in-process design reviews of structural system designs, calculations, and specificationsImplement IMEG quality control processes to meet IMEG, industry, and client requirementsOversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases and identify issues early, seeking guidance from the Project Manager as neededPrioritize safety and uphold ethical, professional conduct while collaborating with multidisciplinary teamsStay current on structural engineering trends and contribute to research, development, and innovation within IMEGRequired Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, requiredMaster's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferredEngineering In Training (EIT) required3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry ORAssociates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industryProficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structuresAbility to train and mentor less experienced staffProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of BIM softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join Us IMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work-life balance, and meaningful impact.
