Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications

This position affords candidates part-time employment while also engaging in various developmental training activities, in preparation for attending the police recruit academy. The period of employment shall be temporary in nature as a "stop gap" arrangement until the requirements for sworn employment as a Police Officer Recruit are fully met. Patrol Aides are required to apply for the police recruit academy once they reach the age of eligibility (20 years old), unless currently enrolled as a full-time college student, and only have two attempts to be hired as a Police Recruit. Candidates whose availability for employment due to college graduation or military separation not aligning with the recruit academy schedule should consider this as an opportunity to learn aspects of the field on a part-time schedule in preparation for the academy.

CJIS/VCIN/NCIC certification is required, in addition to the successful completion of a background check, candidates must have U.S. citizenship or be a lawful resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.

Successful completion of police background and polygraph examination.
