This role is responsible for engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures.You will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, work within the project's monetary budget, and train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The team supports commercial and institutional work across Chicagoland and the broader Midwest, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.At a GlanceLocation: Chicago or Naperville, ILDiscipline: StructuralMarkets: Commercial; InstitutionalOwnership: 100% employee-owned (ESOP)Travel: Up to 10%Work Schedule: Full-time hybridSponsorship: Not availableWhat You'll DoLead the analysis and design of structural systems for buildings and other structures using a variety of building materialsUse engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standardsInteract with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build professional relationshipsSupport the execution of consulting projects as part of a project teamLead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectivesDocument design decisions and client instructions, and monitor design progress against percent complete and fee expendedAnalyze engineering problems, propose innovative solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants on practical and efficient solutionsProvide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications, and implement IMEG quality control processesCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goalsIdentify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project ManagerOversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phasesPrioritize safety and conduct work in an ethical and professional mannerWhat You'll BringRequiredEducationBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License requiredExperience2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industryRequired Skills/AbilitiesProficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and other structuresAbility to train and mentor less experienced staffProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of Building Information Model softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight staysPreferredMaster’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferredAbout the TeamNaperville structural team focused on industrial, commercial, civic, healthcare, and education work, with especially heavy activity in Chicagoland and broader Midwest markets.Frequent assignments include industrial buildings, municipal and public safety facilities, school improvements, retail / commercial peer reviews, and targeted structural investigations.Recent work includes Village of Schaumburg Public Safety Facility, Government (City/County/State), and Cardinal Health Glendale Heights Cyclotron Addition, Commercial.Why IMEGWe put people at the center of who we are, creating positive outcomes for people, communities, and our planet.
