Job Description Our client has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Sr. Civil Engineer / Project Manager to join their team. The position will support a variety of private land development projects throughout Wayne County and the surrounding Detroit metro area. This role focuses on civil site design and project management for commercial and private development projects, including coordination with clients, municipalities, and internal engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have strong technical design capability combined with project leadership and client-facing experience. Key responsibilities include: Site plan layout and site design development Geometrics and horizontal/vertical alignment Grading design and earthwork analysis Stormwater management and green infrastructure design Utility design (storm, sanitary, and water systems) Soil erosion and sediment control plans Traffic and site circulation planning Preparation of construction drawings, details, and specifications Record drawings and as‑built documentation Permit application preparation and submittals Cost estimating and engineering support Attendance at client and coordination meetings Field visits and construction administration support Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited) or equivalent experience PE license preferred or actively working toward licensure Minimum 5+ years of civil engineering experience Strong experience in private land development (required, not municipal) Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D required Experience with grading, stormwater, utilities, and site design Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Strong communication and client-facing skills Experience preparing permits, plans, and construction documents Preferred experience with firms such as: Mannik & Smith, Atwell, Nowak & Fraus, Hubble Roth & Clark, BLN, Anderson Ekstein, Spalding DeDecker, Spicer Group, SmithGroup, Rowe Engineering The Planet Group is a global professional services firm delivering strategic staffing and advisory solutions.
