Assignment: Varies, based on building need Salary: Minimum $17.54 per hour As per current Fairport District Paraprofessionals (FDP) Agreement as well as education and experience Benefits: Health and Dental Life Insurance New York State Teachers' Retirement System (NYSTRS) Pension Longevity Payments Stipend for holding a Bachelor's Degree Professional Development Hours: Full Time School Calendar - 10 month Monday through Friday Elementary Schools 6.5 hour work day (plus 30 minute unpaid lunch) Secondary Schools 7.0 hour work day (plus 30 minute unpaid lunch) Work hours by building are as follows: Brooks Hill Elementary (K-5) 7:25 am - 2:25 pm Dudley Elementary (K-2) 7:25 am - 2:25 pm Jefferson Avenue Elementary (K-5) 7:25 am - 2:25 pm Northside Elementary (3-5) 7:25 am - 2:25 pm Johanna Perrin Middle (6-8) 8:15 am - 3:45 pm Martha Brown Middle (6-8) 8:15 am - 3:45 pm Fairport High School (9-12) 8:15 am - 3:45 pm Reports To: Building Administrator, Classroom Teacher(s), Special Education Director Position Description: The Teaching Assistant plays an important role in supporting and assisting the teacher(s) and students in a classroom. This position supports and assists students with a diverse range of needs and abilities in the general education and/or special education classrooms and programs as required. Responsibilities May Include: Assisting and supporting the classroom teacher(s) in providing instruction to students in subject area(s) Providing individual or group support to students Supervision of students across various settings throughout the school day Assisting students with daily activities, as required, including helping with mobility and personal care Assisting students with academic assignments to support academic achievement Adapting instructional materials for students with diverse learning styles Providing academic accommodations or modifications to students with special needs, following their individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans Providing the teacher with information about students that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences Assisting the teacher(s) in assessing student progress Attending building and district meetings and workshops as required Maintaining accurate records, as directed by teacher(s) or administration Other position related duties as assigned by building administrator and/or teacher(s) Skills: Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact positively with students, teachers and staff Ability to follow instructions and collaborate effectively with a team Patience, flexibility and empathy Ability to understand and respond to student(s) behavior Dependable Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Proficient in using classroom technology, educational software and basic office applications Physical Demands: Able to sit, stand and move around for extended periods of time Ability to assist students with physical needs Some positions may require assisting students with physical disabilities or mobility issues Qualifications/Experience: Must have New York State Certification as a Teaching Assistant Level I, Level II, and Level III or have a New York State Certification as a teacher Prior experience working in Special Education preferred Prior experience working with children in an educational setting preferred Must be at least 18 years of age The Fairport Central School District is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
