Laborer / Scale Attendant

John Smith Landfill, a Waste Connections company, is currently looking to hire a Utility person (Scale House Attendant / Laborer) in Hollister, CA. The schedule will either be Wednesday‑Sunday or Saturday - Wednesday. Weekday hours: 7:45am-4:15pm On weekend days, you will be in the scale house, weighing trucks in and out of the facility and also interacting with the public. On weekdays, you will be doing physical labor outside. The starting pay rate will be $23/hour. The pay range for this position is $23-24.70/hour. Responsibilities Greet and direct all customers and employees upon entry of the transfer station. Weigh trucks in and out and calculate payments for customers. Track weight information from scale to computer system and obtain the appropriate signatures. Pick litter on the slopes of the landfill. Ensure that incoming garbage loads are safe and do not contain inappropriate material. Answer the phone in a professional and enthusiastic fashion. Perform full clerical and general office duties. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel). Assist with office duties, filing and paperwork as needed. Ensure that customers and employees conduct all business in a safe manner and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Provide general upkeep of the Scale House. Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate a high degree of tact, discretion, and diplomacy. Requirements Ability to perform physical activities – bending, shoveling, walking up hills, etc. Strong attention to detail. Prior cash handling experience required with the ability to balance a cash drawer daily. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Reliability and punctuality is a must.
