Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-level critical care in a dynamic hospital environment.

The ICU is a comprehensive 42-bed unit, segmented into specialized areas including Neuro/Medical (22 beds), Cardiothoracic ICU (6 beds), and Surgical/Trauma (14 beds). You will care for a diverse patient population presenting with complex conditions such as strokes, sepsis, altered mental status, neuro interventions (TCAR), respiratory failure, CHF, post-STEMI, post-cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, AAA repair, trauma, and major post-operative surgical cases.

This position involves working 12-hour night shifts, three days per week. The successful candidate will be required to float to other units as needed, excluding Behavioral Health and the Emergency Department (unless holding patients).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill patients across various ICU sub-specialties (Neuro/Medical, CTICU, Surgical/Trauma).
• Manage and monitor patients with complex diagnoses including, but not limited to, strokes, sepsis, altered mental status, respiratory failure, CHF, post-STEMI, post-cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, AAA repair, and major post-operative trauma.
• Operate and manage advanced critical care equipment such as Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) including Prismaflex or NxStage, Ventriculostomy, Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring, and Therapeutic Hypothermia (Artic Sun).
• Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
• Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions within the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including mandatory floating to other units as assigned (excluding Behavioral Health and ER, unless holding patients).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent, acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including experience in SICU, CTICU, Trauma ICU, Medical Surgical ICU, or Neuro ICU.
• Demonstrated prior travel nursing experience.
• Proficiency and experience with the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Direct experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Prismaflex.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4-5 years of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience.
• Strong cardiac critical care experience.

Skills & Competencies

• Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac life support, basic life support, neurological assessment (NIHSS), critical care monitoring, ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, post-operative care, trauma care, stroke care, sepsis management, medication administration, wound care.
• Equipment Proficiency: IABP, CRRT (Prismaflex, NxStage), Ventriculostomy, ICP monitoring, Therapeutic Hypothermia (Artic Sun).

Licensing Requirements

• Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• NURSYS report for license verification.
