About the Position

Job Title: Medical Lab Technician Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Medical Lab Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Mid (Evenings, M-F) Hours per Shift: 8 (14:00 - 22:30) Experience: 2 years, highly preferred in Hematology and/or Chemistry License: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP BOC or equivalent required Certifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline required Must-Have: Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred Description: Medical Technologists support high quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. They prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests. They conduct specialized laboratory tests and perform quality control. Troubleshooting quality control errors and maintenance procedures is part of their role. They recognize and evaluate computer data problems, troubleshooting laboratory instruments. Preventative maintenance is also a responsibility. They communicate technical information to both medical and lay persons. Assisting with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures is expected. Participation in continuing education is encouraged. Recognizing normal and abnormal values is essential. Standards of behavior must be modeled in daily interactions and activities. Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season, all employees may be assigned to emergency response teams. Candidates should consider this impact before confirming a new or extended assignment during the season. Hurricane season runs from June through November each year, with peak activity in August and September.
